What a beautiful weekend! I hope everyone got outside to enjoy the beatiful blue skies and sunny days! My younger kids and I made some delicious pumpkin cinnamon swirl pancakes with cream cheese icing. Wow---they were good!
Last week we continued our work on the letters A, B, and C and worked on squares. Our word of the week was "to" and the kids did a great job writing the word! They are getting a good grasp on how to hold the pencil and form letters! The Bible focus last week was 1 Thessalonians 5:17 "Pray Continually".
We sent home a ton of papers last week--some to be signed and returned. If you have any questions regarding anything sent home, please don't hesitate to ask! Picture days are October 6th and 7th and a paper was sent home with your child's day to have their picture taken. Also sent home were the information packets on our new reading program "Raising A Reader". We will have two introductory workshops for this program will be held on October 4th at 4:30 and 5:30 p/m. Once we get closer to the 4th, we will let you know where the workshop will be held. Once we have the workshop, the children will be able to start bringing home their red bags with four books inside for families to read with their children. I am so excited about this new program and I know the kids are going to love it!
Also sent home was a permission slip to allow me to post photos on this blog. This blog is private and only those who know the web address will be able to access it. If you wish to see classroom photos and field trip photos posted on this blog, please sign and return the permission slip.
On October 4th we will be having a visit from the firemen and a fire truck from Lake Junaluska Fire Department. Their website is http://www.junaluskafire.com/, which has pictures of the different fire trucks used by this fire department. To prepare for our visit from the fire truck, at the end of this week we will be learning how to dial 9-1-1 (and practicing what to say to the emergency dispatchers) using our play phones, practicing Stop, Drop and Roll and discussing fire prevention and fire safety. Please see Mrs. Jennifer to sign the permission form for us to be able to take your child oustide the fenced in areas to visit the fire truck.
This past week, one of my friends, came to visit our classroom and she taught an art lesson to the students. She is currently enrolled at classes at Haywood Community College and working towards her degree in Early Childhood Education. After her lesson the children created their own artwork using water color paints and cotton balls. You will see their art work hanging over the cubbies. The kids had a great time using the cotton balls for painting and were so proud of their creations!
Fall has finally arrived...the trees are starting to turn their beautiful fall colors and the mornings are getting cooler. Please have your child bring a light jacket or sweater to wear outside, as we go out early in the morning.
Cold season has also arrived...please keep working on sneezing and coughing in the crook of the elbow instead of the hand!
Scholastic book order forms also went home this past week. If you wish to order a book (s) for your child, the order forms and money are due by October 14th. There are so many good books to choose from, once again! I personally want to get Splat the Cat, Pete the Cat and Bailey!
