This past week was a really busy one with finishing up all our preparations for the Thanksgiving Feast! We finished our headbands, t-shirts, Teepees and bracelets. We also worked on letters Yy and Zz, numbers 35 and 36, the word big and the rectangle shape. We worked on the differences between a rectangle and a square...the rectangle has 2 long sides and 2 shorts sides and the square has all 4 sides the same size. We also read stories about the first Thanksgiving and learned the reason why the Pilgrims wanted to leave England was because they wanted religious freedom to be able to express their religion their way and not the way they were told to by the King of England. They believed they were true Christians and wanted to get back to a scripture based service. We also talked about how the Indians and Pilgrims taught each other things like fishing for fish to eat, growing crops, sewing and other basic skills needed for survival, especially in the harsh winters in Massachusetts.
This week we will be working on letters Aa and Bb, numbers 37 and 38, the word go, the circle shape and the Bible verse Romans 13:10 "Love fulfills the requirements of God's Law". We are, believe it or not, going to be starting our Christmas crafts....as crazy as it sounds, with Thanksgiving being later in the month this year, we won't have much time to get Christmas things done after our Thanksgiving break. Time just keeps on flying! Even though my husband is still in Milan, we are going to fly on to Paris without him! We will be learning about France and their culture and traditions and learning some words in French. I will also be putting a new stamp in their Passports!

Don't forget to sign up for text alerts for our school and if you want to get ahead start on school for next year, sign up for the school your child will be attending. You can go to www.wlos.com and click on the "breaking news text alerts" blue box and it will take you to another web page where you can register your cell phone number and choose the schools you wish to get notices for delay/closures.
Weather this time of year is very unpredictable and can be 65 degrees one day and 45 and windy the next. Please keep your on the forecast so you will know what type of clothing and coats your child should wear to school. We go outside every day unless it is pouring rain, really hot or really cold (below 25 degrees) Please make sure your child has a coat/hoodie/sweater to put on when we go outside. Wal-Mart has their hat/glove sets out and I usually recommend parents pick up one of those $1/$2 hat/glove sets to keep in their tub at school. This way you know they have it for school and don't have to bring one back and forth every day. We don't keep extra hats and gloves for the kids and don't let the kids share hats. An extra pair at school comes in handy!
With the change of the seasons, please change out your child's extra set of clothes and include pants and a long sleeve shirt.
If your child has been sent home sick or has been sick at home, they may not return to school until they have been fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours without medication. This is to help prevent the other children and staff from becoming sick as well.
If you would like to pack your child's lunch for them, per our food program guidelines, please make sure they bring a nutritiously balanced lunch including fruit and/or veggies and some protein. If you pack them juice, it has to be labeled 100% juice or we can not give it to the children.
Chapstick, Germ-X and lotions for dry skin are not allowed in the classroom or in the reach of other children. If your child wants to use these things, please make sure they use it before coming to school or you can apply it to them when they arrive at school.
Things for the kids to practice at home:
Blowing noses
Buttoning
Zippering
Putting on a coat
Putting on their shoes and tying them
Learning their phone number
Learning their address
Cutting...give them magazines, newpaper, note cards to practice their cutting skills. Most of these kids love to just sit and cut paper!
Have a great week!

This is a "high-end" shopping "mall" in Milan. My husband sent me this picture today. I asked him what he bought me and he said "nothing, they were selling Gucci stuff." Oh well! Here is a link to the "mall".... http://milanitaly.ca/attractions/galleriavittorioemanuele.html
