Last week we worked on letters Oo, Pp, numbers 26, 26, the pentagon shape and the sight word "of". We made pumpkins by mixing red and yellow finger paint to create the color orange and made the finger paint into the shape of a pumpkin. The kids loved the feel of the finger paint and mixing it and moving it around! When you see the pictures below, you can see how much they enjoyed the experience! This week was the last week Mrs. Lovenda and I will be combining for meals. Starting on Monday, October 14th, a new K-Prep teacher will be arriving to take over for Lovenda and she can step back and resume her role as our joint assistant. I know both of us are looking forward to the new teacher starting! The kids have done so well with all the different transitions during our days and we are proud of them! Things will be getting back to "normal" soon!
This week we will be working on letter Qq, Rr, numbers 27 and 28, the heptagon shape (7 sides!) and the sight word "run". These kids are experts at recognizing and drawing their basic shapes and are enjoying the challenge of a more complicated shape! Logan's mom donated a bunch of pumpkins and we will be painting them this week! When they dry, the kids can take them home! I also have a few pumpkins we are going to be using with play doh to make faces on the pumpkins. This activity is a big hit every single year and they all fight over who gets to do it first! I have to admit, even I have fun creating faces on the pumpkins! If we have time, we may get started on creating our own fall trees with our favorite color fall leaves (made out of tissue paper). I will be bringing in my fall and Halloween books for the kids to read and we will be doing some graphing, matching numbers, counting by tens to 100 and counting to 100!

Our weather is getting cooler and when we go outside, it has still been pretty cool, especially in the shady parts of the playground. Please make sure your child has a coat/hoodie/sweater to put on when we go outside. When Wal-Mart starts putting out their hats/gloves, I usually recommend parents pick up one of those $1/$2 hat/glove sets to keep in their tub at school. This way you know they have it for school and don't have to bring one back and forth every day.
With the change of the seasons, please change out your child's extra set of clothes and include pants and a long sleeve shirt.
If your child has been sent home sick or has been sick at home, they may not return to school until they have been fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours without medication. This is to help prevent the other children and staff from becoming sick as well.
