We had a fun and really busy week...wow! On Tuesday Mrs. Judy came in the morning to sub for me when I was in Asheville with my daughter for a doctors appointment. She brought a really cute book about a witch who needed a job and found one delivering pizza. Mrs. Judy brought along a witch puppet for a prop and afterwards she gave the kids circles and cut out witches hats and things to make their own witch. You can see them on the back wall of our classroom...they turned out really cute!
On Wednesday we had our trip across the street to the Fire Station. The kids got to go inside one of the trucks, they learned about how some of the things work on the truck, toured their office and their big room where the cook, eat and meet.
On Friday we toured the Post Office and learned what happens to a letter when you mail it or what happens to the mail when it comes into the Post Office. The kids made postcards and got to go through the process of getting a stamp and putting it in the mail box!
In between all this fun, we worked on letters Qq and Rr, numbers 27 and 28, the heptagon shape (that one was tough!) and the sight word run.
This week we will be working on letters Ss and Tt, numbers 29 and 30, the octagon shape and the sight word "the". Our Bible verse will be Luke 16:10 "If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.". We will also be making fall trees with the different colors of fall leaves, doing lots of math activities, reading more Halloween stories and this week we will be traveling to Germany! My husband will still be going back and forth to Milan for another two/three months so we are going to go traveling without him! He is the senior project manager on this project and he has to be there every step of the way. So for now, we are going to Germany and will learn some German words. I have put a Germany postage stamp in their passports and used their tiny fall school pictures for their passport photo! I hope they like them!
Upcoming Events:
We will be having our Halloween party on October 31st in the Fellowship Hall all morning long! We will be having fun treats to eat and will be playing games. Your child can wear a costume to school but if they are going to want to take it off, please make sure they have a change of clothes that is easy for them to get on/off themselves. We will also be needing some parent volunteers to put together the fun treats (we would need your help from 8-9:30 to assemble the fun treats and help serve) and some volunteers to help with the games...which would be after the morning snack.
We will head to the Fellowship Hall around 9:00 to start out with our morning snack, then play games and afterwards watch a Halloween movie before having lunch in the Fellowship Hall.
I will have a food sign-up sheet posted on the classroom doorway if you would like to donate anything for the party.
Please let me know if you have a short time or long time that you can volunteer...grandparents are welcome to come and help as well!
If your child does not normally come on a Thursday, you are welcome to bring them...we want them to participate with us!

Reminders:
Our weather is getting cooler and when we go outside, it has still been pretty cool, especially in the shady parts of the playground. Please make sure your child has a coat/hoodie/sweater to put on when we go outside. When Wal-Mart starts putting out their hats/gloves, I usually recommend parents pick up one of those $1/$2 hat/glove sets to keep in their tub at school. This way you know they have it for school and don't have to bring one back and forth every day.
With the change of the seasons, please change out your child's extra set of clothes and include pants and a long sleeve shirt.
If your child has been sent home sick or has been sick at home, they may not return to school until they have been fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours without medication. This is to help prevent the other children and staff from becoming sick as well.

Putting on their shoes and tying them
