The lemonade stand my k-prep kids did this summer brought in $85 and I used that money to purchase bought a bunch of books and art supplies for the pediatric unit at Mission Hospital. My oldest son, Nathan and I recently took it to them and they where so excited to receive the donations! Thank you for allowing your child to participate in this activity this summer...you helped bring smiles to the faces of the children in the hospital!
As you read in my letter to our families, we use passports in our classroom and we "travel" to other countries. My husband changed jobs a few years ago and part of this new job was international travel. I thought it would be fun for us to travel with him...it turned out that he went to the same country every month until the project wrapped up which in turn created the passport idea to travel to a different country each month. On Friday he returned to Pittsburgh from spending a week in Sao Paulo Brazil and will be back there in September. Right now it's winter for them and he said the temperatures are in the 70's most days. We will start in September with Japan and end up in May with France. Our class will also be pen pals with one of my old elementary school friends who moved to England many years ago, married and has 4 children of her own. She decided to open up her own preschool (they call it a nursery and their teachers are called nurses) and it has done so well she has opened up another one recently. We recently sent back a few gifts to her school as a thank you for all the wonderful things she sent to our classroom in the spring for our study on England. When our pen pal book comes back this way it will be shared with our children and they will be able to see the pictures she sends back and the notes she sends. My last class of k prep loved this and I hope these children will as well!
This past week the children explored the classroom and got to know some new children. We also drew our picture on a crayon template and colored the crayon using our favorite colors. You can see the crayons hanging on the wall over the reading center.
This week we will start with our circle times and getting used to the new routines and schedule. We will work on letter Aa, number 5, the circle shape and the sight word "at". Also, we will be working on some classroom rules and continue to get to know the classroom and each other...teachers included. :)

Unless it is your child's leader day, please leave toys and jewelry at home. We have plenty of toys in the classroom and toys from home can get lost, broken and cause distractions for other children.
