Mrs. Lovenda's mother passed away Thursday evening, so please keep her family in your prayers!
My husband was scheduled to be in either Hungaria or Romania right after Christmas for two weeks but his company has cut travel 50% for awhile to save money. There where things we needed to get done at the house to prepare for the new dog and things that needed to get done in general but got put off after Bobby had his seizure and we made sure he got back safely to Charlotte. That being said, he is coming home this week to make sure things are taken care of for us and we are driving to Charlotte to check on Bobby.
I will be out this coming Thursday and Friday and I am trying to round up Jenni Rish as my sub (her son William attended our school last year in Mrs. Jennifer's room and she was the teacher in the 2 yr old room) but will let you know for sure who will be helping me out in the classroom.
Winter and snow will be the topic for this coming week! (which seems more appropriate now that it has become cold outside!) We will be talking about birds in the winter and how it is harder for them to find food and will be making little bird feeders for the birds and hanging them on the trees outside. Our water tub will contain ice cubes to help melt and then we can re-freeze them again! If anyone has any small plastic cold weather animals, such as polar bears and penguins that can go in the water tub, we would love to borrow them for the kids to use! I will be bringing in a bunch of books about snow and animals/birds in the snow...one of which is my favorite called "Stranger In The Woods" http://www.amazon.com/Stranger-Woods-Photographic-Fantasy-Nature/dp/0967174805/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1452394298&sr=1-1&keywords=stranger+in+the+woods My mom gave this book to my kids a long time ago and the pictures are gorgeous! We will be talking about the types of clothing that are appropriate for cold winter weather and things we do outside in the winter...like sledding and ice skating. (well, at least we usually do around here! :) ) Our letter will be Pp, the number 20, the trapezoid shape and the sight word "not".
This past week I had the children start writing in their journals themselves. Up until this point they have been creating a picture and dictating to me what their picture was all about. Now they will be using their own inventive writing and trying to sound out the words themselves! They all tried really hard to write words and I was so proud of them! They are awesome!
I want to tell you how sweet all our kids have been to Caroline who has had her right arm in a sling all week. They have helped her clean up and been careful not to bump into her!

Please make sure your child has a complete change of clothes for winter weather. We go outside when it's drizzling rain or after it's rained and the kids get wet. They may spill milk on themselves or they may have a potty accident. Check your child's bag in their cubby or backpack to make sure they have a complete change of clothes in case of spills or potty accidents.

This is Indy, our Beagle/Basset Hound dog we got from Brother Wolf Rescue in Asheville. She is super sweet and gentle and friendly to anyone she meets!
She likes to watch the squirrels and birds through the french door!
