Longs Chapel CEC K-Prep: January 26, 2014

Well, last week was another crazy week! I feel like on one hand we got some things accomplished but on the other hand, we didn't get a lot done, and that's okay. This winter weather really throws everything off for everyone. We were off on Monday, left early on Tuesday and were closed on Wednesday, so, we are going to have the same things planned for this coming week and will be working on letters Kk, Ll, numbers 47 and 48, the octagon shape, the sight word "was" and the Bible verse Matthew 4:19 "Come, follow me." I didn't start anything new so the children that were unable to get to school did not miss out on anything.

We did get to finish (and some almost finished) our puffy paint snowmen, we planted tulip and daffodil bulbs in stones and water and hopefully they will bloom. I don't have a green thumb, so as a back-up for a fun plant in the room, I brought in an aloe vera plant...they are hardy and should withstand my lack of a green thumb!

I brought in some new puzzles I found at the Dollar Tree and the kids seem to enjoy them and they also had lots of time for free art and playing. It was really too cold to go outside, especially with the wind chill, but the kids didn't seem to mind and stayed busy! I also got assessments done on 6 of the kids and will be finishing the rest this week and sending a copy home of your child's assessment. You will see an X through the sight word sections...don't worry about that. If the kids knew some words, it's fine and if they don't, that's also okay....it's not a requirement to get into kindergarten to know sight words.

We are going to do our passports this week with learning about China. My husband is back from Milan and I am sure he is wishing he was back there as it has been just as cold and snowy in his company's home based city of Pittsburgh as it has been here!

Some things I am hoping we can get done in the next few weeks: Finish our puffy paint snowmen, make our own snow globes ( I have all the stuff, just need the time to get them done!), and make bird seed "ornaments" to hang on the trees outside for the birds to eat. (weather permitting!)

Upcoming Events:

Pastries for Parents: February 14...there will be a table set up near the stairs near Mrs. Lovenda's room...get some food and bring it to our room to share with your child

Snow Day Party: February 18th...9:00 to after lunch. We will be spending our morning in the Fellowship Hall pretending to ice skate, eating pancakes, having a snowball fight, doing some fun activities and watching a movie with some hot chocolate and a cookie! WEAR PAJAMAS!!!

Art Show: Sometime in late March/early April we will be once again putting on a school wide art show in the Fellowship Hall! It was so much fun last year that we decided to do it again! I have some really fun and different types of art for our kids to create!

As of today, we are still sleeping in Mrs. Barbara's room and are waiting to things to get finalized to sleep in our room. Thank you for your patience while we get it all figured out! This is will be the first time this classroom has ever been used for sleeping and things need to be coordinated with the church as well.

If your child has been sent home sick or has been sick at home, they may not return to school until they have been fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours without medication. This is to help prevent the other children and staff from becoming sick as well.

If you would like to pack your child's lunch for them, per our food program guidelines, please make sure they bring a nutritiously balanced lunch including fruit and/or veggies and some protein. If you pack them juice, it has to be labeled 100% juice or we can not give it to the children.

Chapstick, Germ-X and lotions for dry skin are not allowed in the classroom or in the reach of other children. If your child wants to use these things, please make sure they use it before coming to school, you can apply it to them when they arrive at school or you can fill out a permission slip for us to apply it at school. We can not allow the children to use them and we are not allowed to apply them on the children without a signed permission slip.

Please do not bring toys from home unless it is your child's leader day. We have plenty of toys and activities going in our classroom and the extra toys will be put in your child's tub.

Please leave gum and candy at home.
