October 11, 2014

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! While driving around doing errands this morning I noticed the trees are really starting to finally turn their beautiful colors! I have a ton of yellow and brown leaves on my deck that I have to sweep every day otherwise they get tracked into the house and now the gutters need to be cleaned as well. Fall is beautiful but creates lots of work to be done! I also now have a family of Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks that have taken up residence at my bird feeder. They are eating tons of sunflower seeds!

This past week we had a German lunch of "chicken schnitzel, spaetzle and green beans, learned about Germany and learned  some German words, listened some German music you would typically hear at an Oktoberfest celebration, (you can hear a sample of the music on this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii-qdSPkCfs) created faces on pumpkins using play doh and googly eyes, did a fun colored water science experiment, gathered information using a T-Chart, went to the Fellowship Hall and danced, did some Yoga, listened to stories about fall, worked on our letters, numbers, sight word and shape and played!

This week we will be working on letters Ii and Nn, the rectangle shape, the numbers 15 and 16 and the sight word "in". We will also be doing a science experiment, doing more faces on the pumpkins with the play doh (the kids loved doing this!), working on patterns and more/less and putting the alphabet stones in alphabetical order.

Upcoming Events:

We will be closed this Thursday, October 16th for a teacher workday.

October 31st is our Halloween Party in the Fellowship Hall. Your child is welcome to wear a costume but please bring a change of clothes they can put on (for the most part) by themselves.

Reminders:

Unless it is your child's leader day or they are bringing a stuffed animal/doll to sleep with, please leave toys at home. We have tons of stuff for the kids to play with in our classroom.

Please have your child wear shoes to school they can wear all day and do not need to change for outside play.

Please leave jewelry at home...unless your child has pierced ears and is wearing earrings. Also, if your child has pierced ears and is wearing earrings, please have them wear posts and not dangly earrings which can get caught in clothes, hair and other children's fingers. The kids end up playing with their jewelry and it gets taken on and off and then it gets misplaced or broken and we don't want that to happen.

Please make sure your child has a complete change of clothes that are appropriate for the weather. This time of year is hard to predict the temperatures so probably a pair of pants and a short sleeve shirt would be fine for now. If they spill their drink on themselves or get wet from the playground we want to make sure they have a clean set of clothes.

Please use the hooks in the hallway to hang up your child's coat when they come in the building in the mornings.

Have a great rest of the weekend and a great week!

Mrs. Wendy
