Last week we where busy with our fun Skittles experiment and as you will be able to see in the blog pictures, it turned out nicely. Some of our kids brought in some acorns and buckeyes for us to examine and we talked about how those are food for squirrels and other animals and how they will take and bury the nuts and acorns to eat during the winter months. We also learned squirrels do not hibernate like a bear but rather will lay low and hide out in a warm tree on very cold days and on days it isn't as cold they will come out and try to find their hidden storage of food. We also used orange and red paints to make the color orange to create a pumpkin picture. You can see these pumpkins hanging on the wall in our classroom!
This week we will be working on letters Aa and Tt, numbers 14 and 15, the sight word "at" and the square shape. We will also be using play-doh to create faces on real pumpkins, doing a candy pumpkin melting experiment and will be "traveling" to Germany with our passports. We will be having a traditional type meal during lunch on Monday with "chicken schnitzel", buttered noodles (called spaetzle in Germany) and green beans, we will be listening to typical Oktoberfest type music ( If you have been to the Germany section of Epcot at Disney World you have heard that kind of music!) and learning some German words. My husband left Pittsburgh yesterday and is in Berlin today and will be there for almost two weeks. He tries to help me with some German stuff but he always has a translator with him when he is working. He has picked up some German words here and there but can't quite yet hold a conversation in German.
Upcoming Events:
We will be closed on October 16th for a teacher workday.
October 31st is our Halloween party in the Fellowship Hall. Your child may wear a costume but please bring them a change of clothes they can put on mostly independently.
