October 20, 2012

What another beautiful fall weekend we are having! This is my favorite time of year! I put my youngest son to work blowing leaves off the deck and had my 2nd oldest son clean out the gutters...the downside of living surrounded by trees! My oldest son came home from Charlotte and "fixed" my computer. Usually the computer will work until he is just about back to his apartment and then it will crash again. So while he is still home I am going to do the blog and weekly newsletter!

This past week Jayden, Lauren's sister, joined our classroom! The kids love playing with her and I am glad to have her back with me! Our letters were Qq and Rr, our numers were 27 and 28, the word was "my" and the shape was a hexagon. The kids are all doing so well on their letter and number formations! They may not always have the letters in the right order and they may be backwards but both of those things are normal as they develop their writing skills. We made ghosts out of paper plates and the kids cut out eyes and mouths from black construction paper. We also made fall trees by drawing tree trunks and shredding red, orange and yellow paper and gluing them on to the tree for leaves. We made patterns with halloween stamps, had a lot of fun with the new train/car table and listened to the story "Pumpkin Soup" on audio CD while the children played with the puppet characters from the story...a duck, squirrel and cat. We took turns with the puppets so each child could have a turn with a puppet while listening to the story. They seemed to really enjoy the story and puppets!

This coming week we will be working on counting by tens and counting to 100, bigger and smaller, reading halloween stories, using play doh to work on our letters S and T on play doh mats, some clothespin one to one correspondence and putting together a scarecrow face. For our academics we will be working on numbers 29 and 30, letters Ss and Tt, the word "see" and the pentagon shape. I will also have the writing box available a few days this week...I have a few kids that are really interested and writing more than just our letters of the week and I think they would enjoy using the writing box!

Reminders:

Please hang your child's jacket/hoodie/coat on their hook in the hallway when you arrive in the morning.  We don't have room in our classroom for coats and they end up getting piled up in our milk crate.

If you haven't brought in your child's $3.00 for the Halloween party, please do so as soon as possible so I can get all the food items we will be needing. The party is on the 31st!

This Monday, October 22nd is our first Raising A Reader Parent meeting at 9:00 in Mrs. Kathy's room. Our Raising A Reader coordinator, Kristi Cook will be there to tell parents how the program works.

We will be having a pajama day, November 1st! I figured after having a party day and then trick or treat at night, it might be nice to come to school the next day in pajamas!

Have a great week!

Mrs. Wendy
