October 7, 2012
I hope everyone had a great weekend! My younger kids and I went to Barnes and Noble to get some books and just happened upon some Star Wars Characters like a Jedi, Boba Fett, an Imperial Officer, a Jawa, an Ewok, Darth Maul and several others. Nothing like getting off the top of the escalator and being greeted by a Storm Trooper! Apparently it was a nationwide Star Wars Reads day and we just happened to be there at the right time! I also found some fun things for me to wear for our Halloween Party!
Last week we created our own pumpkin patch with fist prints in orange paint stamped onto a watercolor background of blue for the sky and green for the grass. We then added some green glitter paint for the pumpkin vines! We wrote the letters Oo and Pp, the numbers 25 and 26, the word "go" and the triangle shape. What's really great is after the kids practice writing all those things, some of them have been copying words from the white board and from the cover of the books on the bookshelves, which is great writing practice and part of pre-reading skills! We also did a clothespin math matching game...putting the correct clothespin that matches the amount of pictures on the wheel. The kids also enjoyed playing a Halloween memory matching game, matched up sight words and listened to lots of stories about fall and the changes that occur with the weather and the leaves during the fall season.
This week we are going to make bats, create faces on real pumpkins with play doh (my kids last year loved this activity) and make faces on a paper pumpkin with triangle, square, circle and rectangle shapes, sort leaves according to size and do the fire truck clothespin counting game. We are also going to measure our carrot sprouts (which are getting really tall) and are going to grow our own pumpkin sprouts. For our Bible lessons, we will be listening to stories from Judges, Ruth and Samuel. Our academics will be letters Qq, Rr, numbers27, 28, the hexagon shape and the sight word "my". We will be listening to some more fall stories and having fun!
I am really proud of your children...they have been doing so well following directions and the rules, being kind to their friends and paying attention during circle times! This is a sweet group of kids and I am glad we are together this year!
Reminders:
This week is our field trip across the street to the Fire Station on Tuesday, October 9th. If you haven't turned in your child's permission slip, please do so as soon as possible. Please have your child wear our school tie dye shirt or a red shirt on that day.
Our Halloween party is on October 31st! Your child may wear their costume, but please bring a change of clothes. Please bring in your child's $3.00 to help with the cost of the party. We will be needing some volunteers to help with the different games and activities we will be having for the children, so if you are able to help, please let me know. We need people to help set up and prepare the snack from 8-9 and people to help from 9-12 to help serve snack and help with the games and activities. You can email me or let me know at school if you are available to help with either or both of those times.
Have a great week!
Mrs. Wendy
