Last week was a bit crazy...we had a lot going on...the whiteboard was taken down on Wednesday and moved to another wall, we had Grandpa Jacks birthday party, Thursday we were closed and our new sink was installed. For me this was a momentous occasion. I had this classroom 4 years ago and now having this sink is like the best present ever! Thank you so much to those who made it all possible!
On Monday we are supposed to have a new boy join our classroom and his name is Caden. Please help us make him feel welcome and part of our classroom family. :)
Monday is our field trip to the fire station across the street. A permission form is attached to the sign-in sheet, so please make sure if you didn't sign it on Friday afternoon that you sign it first thing Monday morning.
October 27th at 8:00 a/m is our very first Raising A Reader parent meeting. Our k-prep classes have been doing this reading program for at least the past 5 years...maybe more. Parents will meet with our coordinator Kristi Cook 3 times during the school year to discuss brain development and the importance of reading to and with your child. She is awesome and the kids really like her. After this first meeting our red reading bags will go home once a week. In the bag will be books for you to read each night to your child. You will bring the bag back every Monday and exchange it for another bag and record the bag# on a card...each child will have their own individual card for recording bag#'s. At the end of the year, probably at graduation like last year, the kids will receive a blue reading bag with books inside that is theirs to keep. Parents and our kprep kids have really enjoyed this program and love to take home their red bags. Parent involvement is important in this program so please make sure you can attend on Thursday, October 27th @ 8:00 a/m. If your child does not attend on Thursdays you are still welcome to come to the meeting.
On Monday, October 31st, two things are going on...we are having our annual K-Prep Halloween party in the Fellowship Hall and the kids will also be going from room to room trick or treating. If you haven't signed up for something for our party, we still have a few things left like cheese cubes and buckets or something to put candy in for the kids to pick out of after they play a game at our party. Please make sure the items you signed up for are in our classroom by Friday, October 28th. I will be setting up Sunday evening before the party and will need to have everything ready.
- I still could use a few more volunteers as well! For those of you who already volunteered to help, please be at school by 8:30 to start getting the snack food set out on our food table. The kids will be coming into the Fellowship Hall at 9:00 to eat and then play games and have fun.
- If anyone has a pool noodle they are willing to part with, I could really use it for a fun game with the kids! Please let me know asap if you have one!! :)
General Information:
- Please make sure your child's water bottle is labeled with their name and current date each day.
- Our days are getting cooler and the kids might want a light jacket or hoodie to wear when we go outside.
- Please change out your child's summer change of clothes for warmer clothes such as long pants and a long sleeve shirt
- Winter weather will soon be upon us. If you have not yet signed up for text alerts for school closings and delays you can do so at www.wlos.com and sign up for alerts from our school. This is also useful if we have to close due to a power outage or other reasons.
- Now that winter hats and gloves are in the stores it is a good idea to keep an extra pair in the classroom. We got outside even when the temperatures drop really low and the children really need to have their hands and heads kept warm to help keep their body heat inside their bodies.
