October 23, 2016

Good morning! What a beautiful weekend...it doesn't get much better than this! I really want to get the leaf blower out and start clearing everything off but then I look up at the several massive trees right over my house and deck and see it's still full of leaves and it would be a worthless cause to start right now! Soon I can get my 2nd son out there to do it for me! :)  He just recently got a promotion at work and is now some type of supervisor at Conmet. He and his fiance carved their first pumpkin together yesterday. I remember way back when my husband and I had our first Halloween together 32 years ago, and we carved our first pumpkin and I remember carving them many years together with our kids! These are the times they will remember! :)

Our oldest son is now volunteering his time with the Greater Charlotte S.P.C.A. to build them a new website and have it interface with the city's website for the counter shelter. The city wants to be more "Technologically Advanced" like many large cities and wants to try a small scale project and my son has offered his time to create the project. He already works for the city of Charlotte in their I.T. dept so this would be a great opportunity for both the city website and the shelter animals!

This past week we worked on our fine motor skills, our math concepts, letter concepts, phonemic awareness and created some art.

This week we will be finishing up our study on fall and will include some Halloween stories as well!

The kids where very sweet in welcoming our new child, Cayden to our classroom!

I will be out tomorrow, Monday the 24th. Jenny West will be subbing for me. For those of you who don't know Jenny she has been with us for a little over a year and is familiar with our classroom and our children. You will still see Mrs. Judy in there first thing in the morning as well! :)

This Friday, the 28th, will be Mrs. Elizabeth's last day in our classroom. She is leaving to go home and take care of herself and her baby that is due in February. Please help me wish her well and for a happy and healthy baby!

Mrs. Sandra Tweed will be starting with us on Monday, October 31st. She comes to us with plenty of experience and has been doing this for many, many years. I look forward to having her in the classroom with us and I know the kids are really going to like her. Please help on Monday, the 31st to give her a warm welcome! I know it will be a little crazy with the party going on but at least she will get to meet a lot of the parents and grandparents that are volunteering!

  • Please make sure all your Halloween stuff is in by this Friday, October 28th so I can make sure we have all that we need for a fun party for our kids! If  you are bringing anything that needs refrigeration or to be put in the freezer you can bring it on Monday the 31st!

  • In addition to a bag of candy for the party we need a bag of candy for our classroom for trick or treaters from the other classrooms.

  • If you haven't already signed up for text alerts from Wlos, now is a great time before the snow and wintry weather arrives. Go to Wlos.com and sign up for text alerts for our school!

  • Now is also a great time to grab an extra hat and gloves to keep in the classroom. We go outside every day, even when it gets very cold outside and we want our children to have their heads and hands warm as well as their bodies.

  • This Thursday, October 27 at  8:00 a/m is our first parent meeting for our Raising A Reader program for our K-Prep kids. Kristi Cook is our regional coordinator and she will be here to discuss the program with the parents and to bring our red reading bags the kids will be taking home each week to read and bring back and exchange for another bag.

  • Please change out your child's summer change of clothes for warmer fall/winter clothes

Thank you for the great job of labeling your child's water bottles with their name and the current date each day! You are awesome!
