It's almost October! Fall is my favorite season...I love the colors (red, orange, yellow), the smells (apples, pumpkin pie!), the beautiful fall decorations and the beautiful blue October skies!
My desktop computer, where I do all my school stuff, crashed again this morning. I can do my blog and newsletter from my laptop, but I won't be able to add any pictures today. If the computer decides it wants to work again, I will post pictures and let you know!
Last week we had our big apple day...the kids loved it! We tasted three different kinds of apples, took a wagon ride, played in the hay and had some apple cider and an apple muffin! We also made our apple pie craft...they came out better than I expected! Look for your child's apple pie hanging in the window and read what they told me how they make an apple pie. We also worked on letters Mm and Nn, numbers 23 and 24, the trapezoid shape and the word "the". The kids are getting much better and starting their letter formations and making recognizable letters! I am so proud of them! Mrs. Lovenda helps our class out at this time and she sits with a few kids and helps them and encourages them. With her help, their letter forming skills have improved! We also did an apple graph, number tracing, putting letters in alphabetical order and listened to stories including the Star Story which is about a little boy who got bored and his mom suggested his find a house with no windows, no doors and a star inside. At the end of the story, the boy climbs up in an apple tree and the wind shakes loose an apple and it broke apart and inside was the star shape...he found his house with no windows, no doors and a star inside. We replicated the star by taking an apple and cutting along the middle (not at the stem at the top) and when you open it, you see the star shape at the core! The kids thought that was fun. After the story we had a little snack of apples!
This week we will be working on numbers 25 and 26, the letters Oo and Pp, the word "go" and the triangle shape. For language skills we will be doing some sight word matching, making the letters O and P out of play doh and play doh shape mats, playing a memory game and reading books about fall and the changes in the leaves that take place in fall. For math we will be playing some clothespin counting games (which also helps with fine motor skills when the open/close the clothespins), coutning to 30 and working on more/less and bigger/smaller. For our Bible focus, we will continue our Bible stories in Numbers, Joshua and Judges and for some creative arts, the kids will be making their own "pumpkin patch".

Picture Day is this Thursday and Friday. Please turn in our selection of backgrounds as soon as possible. If you have forgotten what day your child will be having their picture taken, I have an orange paper posted outside the classroom door with the dates of each child.
The following week we will be making a trip across the street to visit the fire station. I will be sending home a note as to what date along with a permission slip to take your child outside of our fenced in areas.
We will be having a Halloween party tentatively on October 31st. (however, the date may change according to when the Fellowship Hall is available). We will stations set up for fun games and activities and a snack. The kids are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes and you may bring a change of clothes for those children who stay all day or who need to change out of their costume. We are asking each family to bring in $3.00 to help cover some of the costs of the supplies and snack food.
