Last weekend we had a bunch of kids out on vacation with older siblings so we kind of kicked back and took it easy! We had a hair salon set up for a few days that evolved into going dress shopping for the girls and suit shopping for the boys to wear to the ball and then carriage rides to the ball and then at the ball we waltzed with our friends and at times our stuffed animals!
In our second large group get together, we do our white board activities with our letters and numbers, etc. The kids really love doing this and have become such experts that we are now expanding our learning and adding in a few new components. The very last thing we do is create a top secret picture using our shape of the week and add in stripes, dots, lines, etc that is the number of the week. For example, this past week we were creating pictures that reminded the kids of springtime. Some drew a butterfly with 30 dots, some drew a caterpillar with 30 legs. This takes some concentration as they are having to count the lines or dots as they go along, and not just making circles on their picture. They think this is a lot of fun! I have also added some words that begin with the letter of the week, for example last weeks words were wind, water and wood. We tapped these sounds out with our fingers while sounding them out and the kids were able to read them! I am also having them try to label their top secret pictures to encourage them to sound out their own words and put them in print on their board. They also think this is a lot of fun and love to hear me sound out the words they have written!
This week we will be working on letter Zz, number 31 and the rectangle shape. We will still be studying spring and all things springy!
Please make sure your child has complete change of clothes from head to toe..shirt, underwear, pants, socks and shoes. Kids this age still have potty accidents, we go outside and play, they spill milk and water and food on themselves. We cannot use clothes from other children and we do not keep a lot of clothes on hand for extras. If your child has an accident or is wet or dirty and needs to be changed and they do not have a change of clothes in their cubby we will be calling you to bring them some clean clothes.
Please make sure your child has a water bottle that either you bring filled to school or fill it when you get to school. It must contain water and it needs to have their name and current date each day.
Please remember to leave jewelry at home and toys as well, unless it's their leader day and they have brought it for show and tell.
I will be out Thursday, May 3rd and Friday, May 4th to bring the youngest child home from college in Greensboro and to hang out with the oldest child in Charlotte in between the youngest's first and last exams that day. I have to pick up the dorm fridge in Greensboro and take it south to Charlotte to put in the oldest sons garage and then go back later to Greensboro to pack up the car with all his other stuff. Maybe I should rent a Uhaul? :)
